The 48-hour problem

Why leg day hurts more than anything else

Your legs hold the biggest muscles in your body. And squats stretch those muscles while they are under heavy load on the way down. That is the movement that does the most damage.

More muscle, worse movement. That is why you can hammer arms and feel fine, then squat once and lose two days.

  1. 0–12 hours You feel fine You walk out of the gym thinking you got away with it. Maybe a bit of tightness on the drive home. Nothing to worry about.
  2. 12–24 hours It starts The soreness sets in overnight. Most people go to bed with mild discomfort and wake up genuinely unable to move properly. That's not you being soft — that's the standard onset window.
  3. 24–72 hours The peak This is the worst of it, and it lasts two full days. Stairs become a decision. Sitting down is a controlled fall. Getting back up is worse.
  4. Day 4–7 Back to normal It clears. Then you train legs again and start the whole thing over. Which is why what you do in the first 24 hours matters more than what you do on day three.

Most people wait until day two, when it already hurts. That is the worst time to start.

Most heat rubs do not actually heat

Look at what is in the big supermarket rubs. Two things do the work: methyl salicylate, which is an aspirin-like drug, and menthol. Menthol is a cooling compound. There is no heating agent in there at all.

The heat you feel is your skin reacting on the surface. It is loud, it is fast, and it is gone in about twenty minutes.

Many of those rubs also sit on a paraffin or petroleum base. It is cheap, and it sits on top of your skin instead of soaking in. Ours is built on hemp seed oil, so it absorbs.

Sixty seconds, twice

Rub it in before you squat

Warm the muscle before you load it, then again that night. Almost nobody does the first one.

11

Before you lift

Work it into quads, hamstrings and calves as part of your warm-up. Sixty seconds. Do it while you're already sitting on the bench.

12

Straight after a shower

After your session, apply it to same areas, directly after a shower. This is the window most people skip entirely.

Ten ingredients

You can pronounce all of them

Turn over the tube in your gym bag and count how many you recognise. Here is ours, in full.

Hemp Seed Oil

The base of every Peacemaker formula. Naturally rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and what gives the cream its absorbency without leaving a greasy film on your legs.

Arnica Montana

A mountain botanical that has been applied to areas of strain and physical exertion for generations. If you have ever seen a physio's shelf, you have seen arnica.

Turmeric

One of the most studied botanicals there is, valued for its antioxidant properties. Also the reason the cream carries a warm colour rather than a dyed one.

Boswellia Serrata

A resin long used in traditional joint and mobility preparations. A staple of the formula rather than a label decoration.

MSM

A naturally occurring sulphur compound that turns up in serious recovery formulations far more often than it does in supermarket rubs.

Rosemary Oil

An aromatic oil that carries the warm, herbal character of the cream. This is where the warmth comes from — not from a synthetic burning agent.

Peppermint Oil

The clean counterpoint to the warmth. Stops the whole thing feeling heavy on the skin.

Aloe Vera

The reason it goes on smoothly and absorbs rather than sitting on top. Also why you can use it twice daily without your skin complaining.

Tea Tree Oil

An Australian botanical with a long history in topical preparations.

Grapefruit Extract

A natural extract included for its antioxidant properties.

Full ingredient list: Aloe Vera, Turmeric, Arnica Montana, Pure Hemp Seed Oil, Boswellia Serrata, Rosemary Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint Oil, MSM, Grapefruit Extract. Contains natural ingredients. No artificial colours or fragrance. Formulated in Cairns, Queensland. Australian owned and operated.

Mitch, Peacemaker Healing founder

Who formulated it

He made it for himself first

In 2016 Mitch could not get out of bed. He had been medically retired from the Defence Force, and he had worked through every tube on the chemist shelf.

He did not like what any of them were made of. So he formulated his own in Cairns.

More than 16,000 Australians now use his creams every day.

Questions we get a lot

Will this stop me getting sore?

No, and be sceptical of anything that says it will. Soreness after a hard leg session is a normal adaptation response — it means the training worked. What we are talking about is how you get through the two days afterwards.

Does it burn like the chemist stuff?

No. It warms. If you are expecting the sharp chemical sting of a supermarket rub, this is a different experience on purpose. It is a warmth you can sit with for an hour, not a burn that peaks and disappears.

When do I actually use it?

Before you train, straight after the session, and again before bed on leg day. Roughly sixty seconds each time. Most people only reach for a cream once it already hurts, which is the least useful moment.

Will I smell like a hospital at work?

No. There is no artificial fragrance in it at all. What you get is rosemary, peppermint and tea tree — herbal rather than medicinal, and it settles within a few minutes.

Where does it come from?

The formula was developed in Cairns, Queensland by Mitch, a medically retired Defence Force veteran, who built it for his own use before it was ever a product. Peacemaker Healing is an Australian owned and operated business.

How does the upgrade work?

Order the 120ml Heat Cream during the offer window and we ship the 250ml instead — more than double the cream at the same price. The countdown on this page is the real deadline. Once it hits zero the offer closes.

For external use only. Wash hands after applying. Do not apply to broken, irritated or sensitive skin. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep away from children. Store below 30°C away from direct sunlight.

Muscle soreness after hard training is a normal response to exercise. If you have pain that does not settle, or an injury you are worried about, see your doctor or physiotherapist.
